![]() NRC has adopted a stretch of highway through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway program in commemoration of Earth Day. NRC volunteers will be supporting the State’s anti-litter program by ‘cleaning up’ along County Highway BB in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin each year between April and November. The first clean up is scheduled for Friday, April 23rd, 2010. In the spirit of Earth Day, NRC’s volunteer crew will be promoting a clean environment and contributing to preserving Wisconsin’s beautiful roadsides. |
Today marks the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, and April 30th is Arbor Day, first celebrated in 1872. In recognition of these anniversaries, NRC is assisting the City of Fitchburg with various activities on Saturday, April 24th. NRC representatives will be attending the Volunteer Work Party and Presentation at the proposed Apache Drive wet pond near Dunn’s Marsh from 9:00 a.m. to noon. NRC recently completed shrub and tree clearing at the pond, and is currently helping with permitting and restoration planning. There will also be a Biking Tour of the Nine Springs Creek Watershed. NRC is currently working with the City of Fitchburg on a water quality improvement plan, as well. The Tour begins and ends at Dawley Conservancy Parking Lot and is scheduled from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. For more information on the 2010 Earth Day and Arbor Day Events, visit www.city.fitchburg.wi.us, or contact Rick Eilertson at rick.eilertson@city.fitchburg.wi.us |
