On June 14, 2010 the NRCR team had the unique opportunity to partner with Fox Valley Technical College foreign exchange students from the Caribbean to install native shrubs and biodegradable fiber logs along the shore of Little Lake Butte des Morts as part of the Fox River Superfund cleanup. With guidance from NRCR Restoration Ecologists, the students planted native species to restore a shrub-carr wetland and stabalize nearly 1,000 feet of Fox River shoreline with a combination of biodegradable fiber logs and shrub plantings.
Since 2009, NRCR has been leading the restoration of a 15-acre PCB sediment treatment facility on the Fox River shoreline. Site reclamation followed decommissioning of a multi-year construction project responsible for dredging and treating 784,000 cubic yards of seditment from the Lower Fox River. This project required NRCR to develop and implement an effective invasive species plan prior to installing bioengineered shoreline stabilzation measures and restoring native prairie, sedge meadow, and shrub-carr communities.
