Eurus - Butler Ridge Wind Energy Project
Project Highlights
- Bat Hibernaculum Analysis in Neda Mine
- Recommended Best Management Practices (BMPs) to Maintain Permit Compliance During Construction
- Implemented Agency Coordination Approach that Reduced Permit Review Time to Two Weeks
Summary
Eurus Energy and Babcock and Brown retained NRC to evaluate potential natural resource impacts and minimize regulatory permit obligations from construction of a 36 wind turbine facility and five mile transmission corridor in Dodge County. NRC used GIS analysis and field screening to map 50 wetlands and 30 waterways, assess potential habitat for 14 state and federal listed species, locate natural resource constraints, and develop design modifications. NRC biologists worked closely with design engineers and stormwater planners in the field to avoid and minimize natural resource impacts, effectively avoiding all wetlands and waterways with the exception of one permanent bridge replacement which was designed to meet WDNR requirements. Permits were approved within two weeks.
NRC Staff provided construction inspection, trained field personnel, and recommended BMPS to maintain compliance with regulatory wetland and waterway permit conditions and erosion control requirements.
