MidWest Generation - Will Co. IL Electric Generating Station
Project Highlights
- Prepared Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) and Incidental Take Permit to Ensure Endangered Species Act Compliance in Regards to Hine’s Emerald Dragonfly and Leafy Prairie Clover
- Created Herbicide Application Study Plan for Vegetation Control in Environmentally Sensitive Zones
Summary
NRC was retained to assist MidWest Generation with Endangered Species Act consultation for the Will County Station Rail maintenance and upgrade project. The rail line passes through federally designated critical habitat for the federally and state endangered Hine’s Emerald Dragonfly (Somatochlora hinea) and Leafy Prairie Clover (Dalea foliosa).
NRC cooperated with a diverse stakeholder group including state and federal natural resource agencies, as well as other industry representatives to draft a multi-stakeholder Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) with mitigation measures that ensure the long-term protection of rare species within the HCP planning area.
