Veolia Environmental Services - Glacier Ridge Wetland Mitigation Bank
Project Highlights
- Managed Implementation of 120-Acre Mitigation Bank Plan with Restoration Goal of Five Distinct Natural Wetland Vegetation Communities
- Provide Ongoing Annual Restoration Maintenance and Progress Monitoring of Vegetation and Hydrology
Summary
NRC assisted Veolia ES with the development of a wetland mitigation bank at two locations to offset wetland impacts of potential future expansions of the landfill facility. NRC coordinated the implementation of the WDNR-approved mitigation bank plan, including oversight and documentation of environmental compliance, construction, planting activities, and earthwork contractors. NRC managed pre-planting weed control and selection of appropriate plant species for development of forested wetland, tamarack swamp, wet sedge meadow, tallgrass prairie, and upland forest communities.
In addition to oversight responsibilities, NRC Restorations installed native plant materials during construction, and provided annual vegetation maintenance including weed control and prescribed burns. NRC Restorations installed shallow groundwater monitoring wells and dataloggers to record hydrology data. Vegetation monitoring is being completed annually by NRC Restorations in compliance with US Army Corps permit conditions.
