Rumar Manufacturing - Expansion Wetland Mitigation
Project Highlights
- Successfully Completed Stream and Wetland Modification, Restoration, and Enhancement
- Converted Abused Industrial Storage Yard to Wetland Open Space
- Eradicated Invasive Plant Species in Restored Wetlands
Summary
NRC was retained by RuMar Manufacturing to assist in the expansion of their manufacturing facility into an adjacent, existing wetland area. NRC assessed and delineated existing wetlands within the proposed expansion plan area and assisted in completing the appropriate permitting required for adding construction fill to these wetlands. The wetland mitigation plan included stream relocation and enhancement consisting of bank grading and modifying stream substrates to develop fish habitats in riffles and pools. Wetland restoration was completed in an area occupied by an old railroad storage yard and included removing debris, aggregate, and soils, and installing native wetland seed mixes. Wetland restoration enhancement involved reseeding the banks of the stream with native species and the removal of invasive plant species, including Purple Loosestrife.
