An Ansay Heritage Crossing Wetland Mitigation
Project Highlights
- Installed and Managed 5.5 Acres of Native Wooded Wetland
- Conducted Intensive Biannual Vegetation Surveys and Continuous Growing-Season Hydrologic Monitoring
Summary
NRC and NRC Restorations were retained to install and maintain a wooded wetland mitigation landscape and provide monitoring services to assist AN Ansay and Associates with Wetland Compensatory Program compliance. NRC Restorations was contracted to remediate the first failed attempt at restoration, inventory the existing vegetation and hydrologic conditions, and work with regulators to create a new restoration plan and schedule.
To manage the mitigation site, NRC Restorations installed and continues to monitor eleven hydrologic wells and one rain gauge, as well as conducting intensive vegetation surveys in the both the spring and fall. This monitoring data will be used to create an adaptive site management plan, with resultant restoration activities conducted by NRC Restorations including: installation of trees, shrubs, and native seed mixes; periodic mowing; and localized herbicide applications to reduce perennial weeds and control invasive species.
