Guardian Pipeline Northern Illinois - Wetland Restoration and Management
Project Highlights
- Monitored the restoration status of numerous wetlands along a pipeline corridor during a 4-year post-construction period
- Performed various management activities in wetlands to help attain performance standards
- Prepared annual reports summarizing monitoring and management activities, and progress toward attainment of performance standards
Summary
NRC monitored 17 wetlands along a pipeline corridor to evaluate the attainment of performance standards specified by the FERC and ACOE in the applicant’s permit. Twelve of the wetlands were initially not meeting performance standards, and NRC recommended and conducted supplemental native seeding and various management activities (e.g., mowing and herbiciding). At the end of the 4-year monitoring period, all but three wetlands met the performance standards. The three not meeting the standards were dominated by native vegetation characteristic of mesic conditions and our recommendation of no further work was approved.
